About Beautifully Done
Diagnosis: Borrowed time
Treatment: Trust
Prognosis: Beautifully Done
Asher Craig drives fast, flies high, and screws hard. But make no mistake, he’s a gentleman.
He learned way too young that we’re all on borrowed time. Fair or unfair, you only get one ride. He vows to live for the moment because it’s the only time he owns. The past is beyond his control and the future may not exist. With his only loyalties being his family, he thrives for that edge where plunging over is always in the realm of possibility.
When a beautiful familiar face tilts his axis, he re-examines everything and realizes that second chances are overrated and a lifetime of firsts are irreplaceable. In the end, it’s not her medical degree but his trust that needs to prove that the ride together is worth it ... until it’s Beautifully Done.
***Author's note***
Contains spoilers from Beautifully Awake. We highly recommend reading Chase and Lili's story first. For readers 18+

Pain
pierced my shin and I jerked back. “What the hell was that for?” I bitched at
the half pint spit-fire, sporting auburn highlights this week. Sierra changed
her hair color as often as her shoes. And my luck, tonight she was in some
pointy fucking boots.
“You have a freakin’ plane? For real? You never told me you
had a plane! Lil, did you know Green Giant had his own private plane. And he
flies it?”
“Hold up, Green Giant?” I questioned, trying to get a word
in edgewise. These two women spoke their own estrogen dialect. It could get out
of control, especially when Sierra went off on a tangent. And there it was,
with both hands in the air, her drink--which I assumed was a
margarita--splashed down the front of her light grey sweater dress. She didn’t
flinch. Sam, on the other hand, jumped to pat the excess liquid off her c cups.
Cant. Make. This. Shit. Up.
Chase buried his head in his wife’s shoulder to hide his
laughter, Lil bit her fingernail, and Dodd feigned a coughing fit.
In her oblivion, Sierra manually removed the red-headed
beauty’s hand from her chest. “I’m good, no really. Besides, it’s all padding,
babe. Breastfeeding sucks the life from the girls.” If Dodd shook his head one
more time he was in serious jeopardy of herniating a neck disc.
“What part don’t you get?” Sierra focused back on me.
“You’re eyes resemble those crazy contacts models wear and you’re a freaking
giant.” Her contorted facial expression screamed, ‘Duh.’
“We’re about the same height, sweetheart.” I thumbed toward
the two men standing on either side of me.
“Yeah, but he’s a quarterback.” She pointed to Chase. “He’s
a linebacker.” She air kissed Dodd. “And you’re the sick ass wide receiver. You
just look taller. Just cause.”
Since when
did she follow football? My cell started ringing and luckily I didn’t have to find out. “On that note, excuse
me.” I fished it out of my black suit pants and turned my back on the crew. It
was her. My balls did a happy dance. Fuck it, I was so screwed.
“Hey you.”
About the Authors
We’re East coast girls separated by Long Island Sound who
met in Physician Assistant School and have been besties ever since. We can
safely say that thirteen miles of water does not get in the way because we talk
or text, no exaggeration, at least 150 times a day. No, really, we do—about
everything and nothing. Shockingly, we never (we mean never) run out of things to say.
Umm, ever. We definitely laugh A LOT and we’re a tad sarcastic. And if
we’re being totally honest, one or two people might have, on occasion, used our
names and ‘dramatic’ in the same sentence. But it’s hard to trust the sources
since they married us.
It only took twelve years, two husbands, five kids, two
dogs, and a two-week vacation in Cape Cod later to decide the romance world
needed a splash of medicine. Write what
you know.
So you can easily find us at 4 o'clock on Bank Street
beach with a glass of cold Prosecco brainstorming. And guaranteed if we bump
into you, literally, it’s only because our iPhones are glued to our hands
(totally out of our control) either writing or editing our next novel (and yes,
it is possible to do from your iPhone, we mastered it … damn those straight
quotations).
When we are not working on our book or reading the latest
angsty romance on our kindles, you basically name it and we have it going on.
Soccer, lacrosse, golf, swimming, dance, gymnastics, football, chess, baseball,
basketball, skiing, ice skating, school, homework, and more school.
Oh yeah, did we forget to mention our careers in medicine?
Needless to say, we realized fast that something had to
go, so we opted for sleep. It’s completely overrated (yet so AMAZING) and
delirium makes everything funnier. Good thing we share a brain and can pretty
much complete each other’s sentences (definitely weird, we know).
So that’s our story, who we are … just add AUTHORS to the
list!

Excerpt
“I wasn’t kidding when I said that I was not going to be able to wait for next time.”
Lily’s elusive smile started at the corners of her mouth, lifting the apples of her cheeks and crinkling the outer edges of her gold-flecked eyes. “Do you seriously think you’re going to bang me against a Baobab tree?”
“I know I’m going to bang you against a Baobab tree.” He was already working on the zipper of her jeans. With his hands inside her pants, he slipped them into her underwear, tightly grasping her ass.
Lily’s gasp was audible as he kneaded a cheek with each hand.
“Are you ready for me?” he whispered.
Nodding she stepped out of her jeans and he undid his. Lifting her, she wrapped her legs around his slim hips and he lowered her onto his waiting cock. Leaning her back against the ancient tree trunk for leverage, Zac thrust his hips up burying himself deeply within Lily.
Her eyes were wide as she let out another gasp. “I’ve never fucked against a tree.”
Zac laughed, “It’s a first for me too, babe.” And after a few more strokes, “Tighten your legs around me, Lils.” Not taking his eyes off of hers, “You feel so damn good.”
“You too,” were the only words she could squeak out and finally, as a result of his deep pounding, with bated breath, “Zac.”
He nodded, “I know, babe.” His final powerful thrusts had her back molded to the tree.
He fell into her, the old Baobab holding them both up. With their heads on one another’s shoulders, they stood very still until they’d both regained their breath.
Hand-in-hand they headed back to camp.
Please don’t fall in love with me, Zac silently warned.
Please fall in love with me, Zac silently prayed.

Shy Ann’s
was next in Quinn’s quest to find Sabrina. He opened the door and surveyed the
patrons. Sure enough, she sat by the bar, the top of her lovely head barely
visible among the crowd. No one sat next to her.
She swiveled
in her chair as if an unknown force made her turn around. After a brief second
of eye contact, she slowly and deliberately turned away from the door.
A surge of
energy passed through him and he marched up to the other side of the bar, away
from Sabrina and near the bell that hung over the counter. “Melora!”
The other
woman turned at the sound of her name but frowned when she saw who called it.
She poured him a Guinness and slammed it down on the counter. “Drink this and
go.”
“Melora, I
have a problem!”
Instead of
ringing the bell and getting the attention of everyone at the bar, Melora
turned away and got another drink order. Quinn steeled himself with
determination and rang the bell himself. “Hey, Dr. Bankhead! I have a problem!”
The crowd
quieted down and every pair of eyes focused on him. Murmured conversations
carried through the restaurant, but he held Melora’s gaze. Her angry gaze, with
eyes narrowed and lips pursed together. To keep from yelling what she really
wanted, Quinn was sure.
“Quinn has a
problem!” she shouted through gritted teeth. He didn’t care.
“The doctor
is in!” roared the crowd.
“What’s your
problem? Asshole.” She said the last part quietly enough that only those around
the bell heard.
He took a
deep breath. This was it. His one chance. “I’m involved with the smartest,
prettiest, funniest woman on the planet. Only something happened and now she
thinks I’m the biggest jerk to ever walk the hallowed streets of Harbin.”
“Then I’d
say you should cut your losses and get the hell out of our town.”
“I’m not
finished. The thing that happened. It was completely independent of anything I
did. Only she won’t let me close enough to explain.”
Melora
tapped her finger on the bar and shot a look over at her sister. Sabrina shook
her head.
“If this
woman is as smart as you say she is, then you’re out of luck. The doctor has
spoken!”
The crowd
cheered in approval, but Quinn wasn’t done. He flipped a nickel in the jar that
read Psychiatric Help, 5¢, and rang the bell again. When Melora didn’t turn
around, he kept ringing.
“What now?”
The crowd
quieted again. Quinn ignored Melora and turned to Sabrina. “I can’t leave it
like this.”
Sabrina
hopped off her stool and came to his side of the bar amid the hushed whispers
of the other patrons. Her lips fixed in a small half-smile and ran her fingers
lightly down his chest. Her eyes told him this was not an act of forgiveness
but he braced himself for whatever she wanted to dish out. He deserved it.
“Quinn, I
believe I act for all womankind when I do this.” She lifted his glass of beer
and poured the drink on his head, then shook the remnants out.
The cool
shock of the drink was nothing like the ice that replaced the fire in his
belly. The crowd quieted down while beer poured down his hair and cheeks and
wet his shirt and jeans, eventually dripping to his feet.
“Okay,
then.” He held his voice low and smooth. Another bartender tossed him a towel,
and he wiped his face, then folded the material neatly and handed it back, his
desire tightly reined and shoved into the deep recesses of his soul. “The
doctors have spoken!”
The patrons
roared and he put a twenty dollar bill in the jar. He left without looking back
at the woman who had almost changed his life.

I’m so lonely; there’s nothing for me here.”
Excerpt
I spot the familiar lady standing
at the next stall, although she has aged considerably. “Oh My God. Sax you have
to try this fudge!” I yell as I pull him along to the stall. “Twelve pack mixed
please,” I ask the lady as Saxon raises his eyes at me. “What?”
“That good huh?” He smirks.
“It’s the best. I used to get it
all the time when I was a kid and Dad would bring me here,” I tell him
excitedly. The lady who has been manning this stall and making these delicious
sweet treats for as long as I can remember hands me my bag of goodies and Saxon
is paying her before I can even reach for my purse. “Thanks.”
He smiles down at me. “If it makes
you smile like that I’ll buy everything she’s got.”
Heat warms my cheeks and I smile
shyly.
“Well done son,” the vendor says to
Saxon. “A happy wife is a happy life.”
“Don’t I know it,” he winks at her.
I laugh and shake my head as he pulls me away from the stall.
“Come on, you have to try some,” I
say holding the bag right up to his face.
“How can you still be eating after
our late lunch and all the food samples you’ve had in the last couple hours?”
he asks laughing at me.
“There’s always room for fudge,” I
answer him seriously. “Besides I’d rather be fat and happy than skinny and
hungry.”
Saxon’s face breaks into that huge
grin that melts my insides. “That’s what I love about you Brooke.”
“What? That I’m fat?” I ask with
mock horror.
“Shut up,” he laughs as he
playfully shoves me, nearly into another shopper, before quickly grabbing me
and pulling me into him. He wraps his arms around my shoulders and places his
head into my neck. “Shit, I’m sorry Brooke. You’re so damn little I forget how
strong I am.” His voice is serious but I can feel the laughter rolling through
him from the quick breaths on my neck and his shaking shoulders. Lifting my
hand I slap him across the back of the head and he quickly pulls away from me,
laughter still written on his face.
I take another piece of fudge and
stuff it into my mouth before huffing at him and walking away.
“Don’t eat too much fudge, we’ve
still got dinner,” he scolds me.
“Yes Dad.” I hear his quick
footsteps catching up to me and I duck away as he nears me. I’m not nearly
quick enough, probably because I’m more concerned about the bag of fudge in my
hand, and he easily wraps his arm around my shoulders, holding me tight against
him. I reach into my bag of fudge and go to shove one in his mouth. He grabs my
wrist before I can make contact and looks down at me before he brings it to his
mouth. He eats the fudge out of my fingers painfully slow. Purposefully
torturing me as revenge. My body quakes with need and I squeeze my thighs
together trying to alleviate the pressure he is building there. He hasn’t taken
his eyes off mine and I stand there stunned, in a trance of lust. When he’s
finished nibbling the fudge and my fingers, he slowly licks them clean. Taking
each one into his mouth and slowly sucking, licking and nibbling it.
He releases my hand from his mouth
and intertwines our fingers. “You’re right, that’s fucking good fudge,” he says
calmly and pulls me along, as if he didn’t just turn me into a puddle of mush.

It’s taking me longer than usual to get ready. Davis is
already showered, dressed and out of the bedroom. I’m moving a bit
slowly. Dragging my feet on purpose? Still a bit pouty? I
just don’t feel quite right, but decide to pull it together and get going.
I have a great little dress for the party that PJ picked out for
me from costume storage. It’s a red flapper dress, but instead of the
usual fringe, it has strips of fabric with jet beading. It swishes and
sparkles. I also have amazing “underpinnings” as PJ called them.
Red bra and panties with black polka dots and satin trim. Roll top
stockings, too. Very authentic. I want to be fun and sexy from the
inside out. I’m feeling pretty good about the outfit. I’ve spent a
long time on my makeup. Did my research online. Bright red structured
lips with a perfect bow and smoky eyes. The only other time I wear this
much make up is on stage. The final touch is a black bob wig. Chin
length. Smooth, shiny and sassy. When I put it on I hardly
recognize myself. I wonder what Davis will think. As I finish up, I
hear the doorbell ring. That will probably be Smitty.
***
Entering the living room through the French doors of Davis’
bedroom I see there is a pre-party party occurring. Smitty is being
introduced to Kathleen. Davis has pulled a bottle of champagne out of a
bucket of ice and is just pouring the first glass. He looks up as I come
through the doors and has to quickly pull the bottle back, as he was pouring
and not looking and almost overfilling the glass.
“Oops, shit,” he says, shaking some champagne off his hand and
then wiping it on the towel around the bottle. “Lizard? God, you look so
different. I mean, Good … Great, like you, but different. And
Jesus, HOT. Smokin’ hot.” He is effusive with his praise of my
look, while at the same time not believing that it’s really me. “Smitty,
Kath … doesn’t Biz look … Oh my god, HOT.”
I tease him because I’ve never seen him act this way before and
I am getting a big kick out of it. “You said that already.”
“It bears repeating. HOT.” He is finally making his
way over to me with a glass of champagne. Attired in a tuxedo with his
hair slicked back like a 20s gangster, I could say the same about him.
HOT. When he gets right in front of me, he doesn’t touch me, just puts
his forehead on mine and breathes out, “I am totally going to get to fuck a hot
flapper tonight. The wait is going to be excruciating” – and then he
bites his lip. Barely touching me and he is arousing all my senses.
Jesus, now my little polka dotted panties are in flames. And we still
have a party to go to.

“Seriously! It’s been five minutes!” I screamed at my computer.
“You self-important entitled motherfucker!”
“What now?” Josh asked tentatively.
“Who do you think? Okay, dude. I really gotta get to

“Okay, just one more question!”
“Make it quick.”
“What was the craziest thing you guys did last night?”
“She put on a ball gag around her mouth and commanded me

“Holy fuck! That sounds intense!” Then Josh looked at me

I stared at him in disbelief. “Oh, dear God. You

Apologies for not responding as quickly as you had hoped. I must have

“That will shut you up, B. Fucking Parker.” I knew I
probably had gone too far, especially with such a huge client for the firm. But
from experience, sometimes you had to push back when dealing with unreasonable

Thank you for your effort to become more dedicated to the needs of your
clients. While I do not condone the use of electronic devices while sitting
over a public toilet “taking a shit,” as you have so nicely put it, I do
appreciate receiving responses to my emails in a timely matter. As you are
aware at this point, I thought that timeliness was somewhat lacking this
morning.
Also, I am torn between feeling sorry for you and your ill-fated
illness and feeling sorry for the egg, which had rotted and wasted away before
it could have been appreciated in some manner. I say that to say: I sympathize

least you survived.
I look forward to reviewing these contracts shortly.

Jessica Wood writes contemporary romance.
While she has lived in countless cities throughout the U.S., her heart belongs to San Francisco. To her, there’s something seductively romantic about the Golden Gate Bridge, the steep rolling hills of the city streets, the cable cars, and the Victorian-style architecture.
She loves a strong, masculine man with a witty personality. While she is headstrong and extremely independent, she can’t resist a man who takes control of the relationship, both outside and inside of the bedroom.
She loves to travel internationally, and tries to plan a yearly trip abroad. She also loves to cook and bake, and—to the benefit of her friends—she loves to share. She also enjoys ceramics and being creative with her hands. She has a weakness for good (maybe bad) TV shows; she’s up-to-date on over 25 current shows, and no, that wasn’t a joke.
And it goes without saying, she loves books—they’re like old and dear friends who have always been there to make her laugh and make her cry.

The one thing she wished she had more of is time.

Hold
Your Horses
“Charlotte,”
he sighed as his lips crashed down on mine and every single thought flew out of
my head.
This wasn’t
a gentle kiss at all. It was desperate and rough, our mouths ravaging each
other and quickly spiraling out of control. It felt like it had been forever
since I was last able to touch him. Before long, I was gasping for air, trying
to breathe him into me. To hold on to this moment and him forever.
“Sugar, we
can’t do this here,” he whispered against my lips as my hands started to
unbutton his shirt. I had forgotten we were in my parents’ driveway. Forgotten
that they were probably waiting for me inside the house.
“Shit,” I
replied, my head dropping down to his chest. I could feel his heart thumping
under my cheek. His arms wrapped around me so he could cradle me in his
embrace. I loved being this close to him. How could I ever give this up?
