Book Review - The Exception to the Rule by Beth Rinyu

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received an copy of this book from Beth in return for an honest review . This is Beth’s first novel that she has put out there in the public’s eye.

Book Blurb:
When Katrina “Kat” Vallia, an idealistic if somewhat naive 20-something American pediatrician travels halfway across the globe to volunteer in a poor African village, she looks at it as a means of closure. Following a bitter breakup with her unfaithful boyfriend, she decides to throw herself into her work without any distractions from a man. That’s until she encounters Dr. Julian Kiron, a handsome, career driven pediatric oncologist. Even though she tries to fight it, Kat finds herself falling deeply for him; until she painfully realizes that they both want totally different things from life. Not willing to compromise for the other, they sadly say goodbye, cutting all ties.

Five years later, Kat’s happy world is turned upside down when she is given devastating news. She must now confront her past and the secret she’s harbored for years. But will saving the one she loves most also rekindle the love she let slip away?

I thought this story was very well written . I loved ALL the characters in the story as well .

Katrina was a strong willed American Pediatrician . After a break up with her boyfriend of 5 yrs she decides to travel across the globe to Africa and volunteer to help the poor . Once there she meets Julian a handsome pediatric oncologist. He makes it very clear in the beginning that he does not do the whole relationship thing and She does not do the casual thing . They start to work together through various situations and times throught out her time there and are becoming closer every day . One night the chemisty between the two can not be avoided anymore and they sleep together. The Next Day Kat get’s terrible news and has to immediately go back home .
Dealing with the tragedy that sent Kat back home Julian makes sure to call her every week to see how she is doing and how she is getting through the situation. Of course her feelings for him grow more and more . Julain surprises her before his trip to Germany to spend a couple days with her and they discuss why they can’t be together . They both know that what they have has grown into love, but they have a fundamental difference that neither is willing to compromise on. Kat is a family orientated person and Julian, is not and there are no amount of feelings that can persuade either to change their opinions on the subject. So, Julian leaves her with the promise of not trying to get back in contact.

5 yrs later something brings them back together again. Can the love be re-kindled. Can Julian forgive Kat for keeping a secret from him for 5 yrs . I can’t really tell you anymore then that without giving away what the secret is and I do not want to do that to anyone .

What I can say is this book truly is a great story , Beth did an amazing job of writing this story , bringing the characters to life in the story . You will not be disappointed with this story trust me . It is definitely worth the time to read it .

Ohhh and it does have an HEA !!!!!
